TOULOUSE LES ORGUES: AN ASSOCIATION WORKING TO PROMOTE ORGANS AND ORGAN MUSIC
Since 1996, Toulouse les Orgues has been working to promote the city’s organ heritage through a number of initiatives.
The Association currently organises several events showcasing the organ, including the International Toulouse les Orgues Festival, Toulouse les Orgues Takes up its Summer Quarters and the Toulouse International Organ Competition. Each one is an opportunity to explore the full range of our organ music repertoire and discover some new surprises!
Alongside these events, the Association also works throughout the year to raise awareness of the organ and its music, promote education in the arts, and maintain the city’s instruments.
Toulouse les Orgues is the result of a happy combination of circumstances in Toulouse and Occitanie: the presence of a number of exceptional, well-maintained organs, enthusiasts determined to protect this heritage, organ classes, organ builders, and so on.
THE GESU CHURCH: A SITE DEDICATED TO MUSIC
The offices of the Toulouse les Orgues Association are in the Gesu church, one of Toulouse’s historical treasures, tucked away in the Carmes/Salin quarter.
The church is also home to other organisations: the Toulouse Baroque Ensemble, Les Sacqueboutiers (an early brass instrument ensemble), Les Arts Renaissants and the Antiphona ensemble.
The building is in the southern neo-Gothic style, and is painted and richly decorated. It houses a Cavaillé-Coll organ listed as a Historical Monument.
These can be seen during the annual Heritage Days or at the concerts organised here by each organisation.
